  • Project Proposal

    Nor’ Easter Pickle

This proposal is for a web page for the start-up Go Pickle

This startup will have several main goals.

    Goals

    1. To serve as an event platform setting up tournaments, play with pro days, demo days, and camps.
    2. To connect pickleball communities in the Northeast of the United States.
    3. To provide a digital platform for instruction, almost creating a pickleball social media platform.
    4. To create a safe, fun, and competitive atmosphere around the game. All levels have different views of the game, and people want to make it to higher levels.
    5. Integrate youth of all ages in age and skill-appropriate competition.

Develop a logo and graphics for the site.

    • Project Description
      • What do you plan to do?

    Goals

    • To serve as a pickleball training platform where you have an online coach that replaces in-person coaching
    • To serve as a training platform with professional coaches and pro players
    • To connect pickleball players and coaches in the United States.
    • To create a pickleball social media platform.
    • To create higher levels throughout the game
    • To heighten knowledge of the game’s rules
    • Who is your audience? How will this project be useful to someone other than yourself?

My audience is pickleball players of all ages and skill levels and anyone interested in playing pickleball. I will begin with a target population in the greater United States of the US and see how popular the site is. I will especially target the main hubs of California, Florida, and Texas.

    • What question or need drives your project? How will your project address this?

There are many options for taking lessons in pickleball, but they all come with time constraints and financial burdens. I want to make pickleball lessons more financially affordable. I also want a more flexible schedule for people to choose when to take their lessons.  I also want to expose coaches to promote their popularity in the game.

    Background

    • Why do you want to do this project?

I see such a need and a niche for this game. It is one of the largest growing games in the country. Racquet sports are also where I plan to start my professional life and this would be a great project going forward after graduation.

    • What academic work has prepared you for this project?

My entrepreneurship coursework, sales and business courses, and athletic courses have given me a foundation for this project. I have also worked in racquet sports for the last six years, and my internship this semester is in this field.

    • How does this project represent your interdisciplinary learning?

This project combines all my interests and academic work. I have to make a start-up, market it appropriately, and be good at what I do in racquet sports. I also need to create a financial structure that provides me and my coaches with income while remaining affordable.

    • Delivering & Assessing
      • What format will your project take?

My format is to make a website/app for Go Pickle that jump-starts my project. I will start with the e-port through Plymouth University.

    • What will you use in your ePort as evidence for or artifacts of your project?

I will have a website with a member base

    Marketing materials

A proposal for a online signup

    • How will you know if your project is successful? How can it be assessed?

My project will be successful If the materials I create are prepared for a launch

    • What resources/skills do you have for this project?

I have a strong knowledge of racquet sports and pickleball in particular. I also have lots of connections in the pickleball world. I have been coaching at a resort for four years and understand the requirements for organizing events and competitions.

    • What resources/skills will you need for this project? How will you get/develop them?

I need to know how to build a website, and a website developer for guidance. I will need graphic support. I will need email lists and contacts. I already have a large list of contacts from the pickleball communities and the country club resort world. I need to put this into a form that will let me send messages to target groups based on location, playing level, and age.

    • Whom do you need to contact and/or work with for this project?

I think the most significant action is marketing. I already have contacts in the racquet industry who can help me with this. They are directors and coaches from local resorts.

    • Planning: Risks & Challenges
      • What are the risks and challenges of this project?

The risk is that I will set up the app or website, and people won’t use it.

The challenge is making the actual software that is user-friendly, has match services for clients and coaches, has an easy pay option, and can collect data for the site.

    • If you don’t succeed with your main goal, how might you adapt/adjust your project?

I might just use the materials  I developed at my job at Owl’s Nest Resort to make the pickleball coaching program more exciting and focused. The audience would be smaller, but it would still be online, and perhaps that would be a good starting point.

    • Planning: Timeline
    • What are the major steps of your project (be specific and granular!!) and when you do you plan to complete each?
