This research article is a notational analysis of pickleball for men’s singles. By notational analysis, the article means an analysis of men’s singles matches to see what needs to be included in training for matches and how to develop a game plan. The researchers used observations of 1145 points in Professional Pickleball Association Tour tournaments during the semi-final and final rounds. Data was recorded using software to analyze gameplay patterns. The findings showed that player behavior and strategy can be broken down for training purposes.
The reason that this study interests me is that it shows how software can be used to analyze the play patterns and strategies of players so that they can begin to improve their game. Tennis and paddle tennis have already been analyzed using similar software, so there is a precedent for this kind of analysis. My interest in this study is that the focus is on pickleball, which may help me develop watts to support my players in a more focused way.
